12U Bandits Win Summerfest Tournament
The 12U Bandits captured its first championship of
the season by going 3-0 while outscoring their opponents 32-7 in the Summerfest
Tournament in Burlington Twp. this past weekend. Game one featured the Bandits
beating a tough Lower Bucks Lady Lions team 6-4. Ashley Vastano took the mound
and threw a great game giving up only 3 hits. Incredible defensive plays by
Alexis Wiggley, Sammie Martinez and Allyson Potts, shut down any Lower Bucks
threat. A total team effort led the offensive attack. In game two, the Bandits
faced the host team, Burlington Twp. Lady Falcons. The Bandits bats exploded in
producing 16 hits to a 14 to1 mercy rule victory. Robin Antozzeski and Samantha
Peralta combined in the one hit dominating pitching performance. Ally Potts led
the offense (3 for 3), while Ashley Vastano, Emily Meszaros, Maryrose Szeker,
Ashley Pandolf and Sam Peralta all collected 2 hits each. The Bandits faced the
Hillsborough Hurricanes in the Championship game and again bashed the ball
collecting 18 hits over 5 innings to a 12 to 2 win. Robin Antozzeski was on fire
with a 4 for 4 performance, and pitching another great game. Other key hitters
were Sarah Lyons (3 for 3), Ashley Vastano, Dominique Douthit, and Maryrose
Szeker collecting 2 hits a piece. The defense played solid and featured great
plays by Emily Meszaros and Samantha Peralta, while Kelly Tohill and Angelica
Salera played key roles in the team championship victory. Next up for the
Bandits 12U – The West Jersey Challenge in Readington.. Lets Go Bandits !!!!!

Bandits 12U Draw Tough Games
Coming off their double win performance
in Manahawkin, the 12U Bandits ran into
a tough bracket this past weekend at the
“Calm Before the Storm” Tournament in
Lacey Twp. The first game pitted the
Bandits against a very good Lacey Storm
12’s squad. Although Lacey was much
bigger and more experienced, the Bandits
were not intimidated and played their
best game thus far in this young season,
coming on top with an impressive 11 – 4
victory. Combining heads-up base running
and timely hitting, the Bandits jumped
to an early lead that had the Bandit
faithful cheering. Feeling very
confident, the gritty Bandit squad
continued to put pressure on Lacey in
every inning. Any offensive threat
mounted by Lacey was cut short by a
solid Bandit defense. Robin Antozzeski
picked up the victory with 6K’s while
giving up only 3 hits. The offensive
attack was lead by Ashley Pandolf who
went 3 for 3. Hits by………………………..
contributed to this total TEAM win.
In their second game of the day, the
Bandits faced the Freehold Tornadoes.
The Bandits knew this would be a tough
game as they lost a heartbreaker to the
Tornadoes a week earlier. From the
opening inning, it appeared this was not
going to go our way. Defensive miscues
put the Bandits in a hole early and a
tough Freehold team was not going to let
our squad back in the game. Ashley
Vastano battled her way through the
game, picking up 4K’s. A late Bandit
rally fell short, as the game time
limited expired. Dominique Douthit,
Sarah Lyons, and Emily Meszaros had 2
hits each in the loss.
The Bandits faced their cross-town
rival, Hamilton Hurricanes, in their
final game of the day. Ally Potts
pitched 3 good innings and Sammie
Peralta, making her Bandit pitching
debut, completed the final two. Although
our pitchers only gave up 2 hits to the
hard hitting Hurricane squad, defensive
mistakes again put the Bandits in a
hole. A tough Hurricane pitcher kept the
offense off balance, and the Bandits
could not muster enough runs to steal
the victory.
It was a tough day for our Bandit ladies
against some good teams. As coach Jeff
says, “It’s the little things that can
make or break you.” Games like these
will happen, but a true test of a
championship team, is how quickly they
can bounce back, and together, be
victorious! Go Bandits !!!

Bandits Steal a Few!!
The 2007 season has started for the 12U
‘Bandits Softball Team’. Playing this past weekend in the Stafford Spring
Swing Tourney in Manahawkin, the 12U Bandits started with the Freehold
Tornadoes. Excitement and anticipation was the name of the game. This was
the first tournament of the season for the girls as well as the first travel
play for some of our new players. Robin Antozzeski took the mound for the
Bandits. Robin was on the 10U Bandits last year but had never pitched from
the longer distance in competition. It did not seem to bother her, pitching
7 full innings. Robin did a great job delivering 15K’s, 2 hits and only 3
BB. This was certainly a stellar performance unfortunately it came in a 5-3
loss. Good base running and some key hitting had us up until the 6th inning.
A couple of bad breaks allowed the Tornadoes to tie the game. Unable to
score in the allotted time frame we went into the ‘all so wonderful’
international tie breaker rule. The Tornadoes scored in their half of the
inning to win the game. We had hits from: Sammie Martinez, Ashley Pandolf,
Alexis Wiggley, Kelly Tohill, and Sarah Lyons.
Our second game was against Toms River Lightning. Ashley Vastano took the
mound this time. Although not 100%, coming off being sick, Ashley pitched a
very good game. Pitching 4 innings, we 10 run-ruled the Lightning for a 12
to 2 victory. Ashley had 6K’s, 2 hits and only 2 BB. This was certainly an
opportunity to work on ‘small ball’ strategy and that is what Coach Jeff
did. Calling for bunts and steals on almost every play, this gave the girls
some insight on how this game is truly played. Angelica Salera’s pinch hit
scored the game ending run. We had everyone put the ball in play: Sammie
Peralta, Robin Antozzeski, Maryrose Szeker, Sarah Lyons, Emily Meszaros,
Dominique Douthit, and Angelica Salera each with a hit. Sammie Martinez,
Ashley Vastano, Alexis Wiggley, Ashley Pandolf, and Kelly Tohill combine for
2 hits each.
In our last game of the tournament, Kelly Tohill took the mound against a
tough Manalapan Belles Team. This was Kelly’s first time on the mound as a
Bandit and fought through some “rookie” nerves with a solid 4 inning
performance. Kelly had 4K’s, 2 hits and only 4 BB. Running into a bit of a
jam in the 4th with bases loaded and only 1 out, Kelly was relieved on the
mound by Robin Antozzeski. With little time to rest from her earlier
performance, Robin came back and pitched the rest of the way. With some
solid fielding and some stellar defensive plays, the Bandits got out of that
inning with only a few runs coming in. With the game tied the Bandits again
went with ‘small ball’ strategy and got some runners on base. In the 7th
Dominique Douthit got on and Maryrose Szeker hit a gapper that went all the
way to the fence. Scoring Dom and getting a triple out of the hit. Sammie
Martinez, went in as a ‘pinch runner’ and scored on a passed ball. Good
defense helped out in the final inning with a pop fly caught by Ashley
Pandolf to end it with an 8-7 Bandit victory.
Overall, it was a good day for these new 12U Bandit players and coaches. As
with most good teams there is room for improvement. The girls are coming
together and showed a tremendous amount of character battling a very hot day
and virtually 3 games in a row without a break. As the team prepares for
their next big tourney in Lacey Twp., the true measure of a good team is
correcting the mental and physical mistakes that were made and capitalizing
on every opportunity to be successful. You can be sure that the 12U coaching
staff will do everything possible to get the team ready to play hard, stay
focused and energetic and continue on the way to many more victories this
season!
